Week 29

How your baby's growing:
Your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. Her muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and her head is growing bigger to make room for her developing brain. To meet her increasing nutritional demands, you'll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid, and iron. And because her bones are soaking up lots of calcium, be sure to drink your milk (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in your baby's hardening skeleton each day.

Kassandra's baby registry

Hi,

We have been getting questions as to weather or not we are registered anywhere. The answer is yes. We are registered with Babies R Us.
Our registry information is as follows:
Recipient: Christine Holloway
Co-Recipient: Thomas Holloway

There are 3 ways to order through them:
- Shop at babiesrus.com 24/7 from the comfort of your home.
Some items on our baby registry come with free shipping.
- Visit any of our 300 Babies"R"Us stores nationwide.
If you chose to visit your local store, you can purchase the item there and if our store has the item they can do a store transfer and Tom and I can pick up the item here.
The store closest to our home is:

Phone: 702-837-0073

Our address is on file with Babies R us and the items that you ship will arrive to our home. If you need our address please e-mail either Tom or I and we will be happy to provide it to you.

As we state in our registry we have the crib and many, many, clothes for Kassandra. Thank you Dan and Deanna and Zach and Heather for the clothes - we really appreciate it. However as you can see by our registry there are many other items that we are in need of. In addition we have a few other items that we want to purchase that Babies R Us does not carry. For instance we need a changing table but regular changing tables are to short for us. Therefore we are looking for alternative dressers that we can also use as a changing table. The other item we are looking for is a trash can for all the dirty diapers. We don't want the diaper genie because it's expensive to get the refills and they really don't hold a lot of dirty diapers. We also know that some of the items we have selected on the Babies R Us registry are expensive. Therefore if you would like to make a cash contribute toward any of the above we would appreciate it.

If you have any questions regarding the above, again please feel free to e-mail either myself or Tom and we will be happy to assist.

We appreciate your kindness as we prepare for Kassandra's arrival.

Week 28

How your baby's growing:
By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She's also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

Week 27

How your baby's growing:
This week, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if she were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother her, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.

1/8/10 Ultrasound

Hi All,

We had another ultrasound today. First may I say that the one thing I hate about the new year is having to pay the deductible again. Ok with that said Kassandra is looking great. She is growing right on schedule and is as suborn as ever. So on this visit I decided not to have any starburst - mainly because the ultrasound was in the morning but this meant that we couldn't get her to move. So no face shot this time around but here is what we have:

A foot - FYI - she has large feet according to the dr. Tom and I started laughing because we both have large feet.

A hand - here she is giving us a high 5.

And one more hand shot

Our next ultrasound appointment is in February and will have more pics then.

Week 26

How your baby's growing:
The network of nerves in your baby's ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. She may now be able to hear both your voice and your partner's as you chat with each other. She's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of her lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when she's born and takes that first gulp of air. And she's continuing to put on baby fat. She now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches (an English hothouse cucumber) from head to heel.

Week 25

Happy New Year

I am beginning to feel Kassandra more and more each day. It is fun and I enjoy it... well that is up until she begins kicking at 1 in the morning and I can't sleep.

How your baby's growing
Head to heels, your baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches. Her weight — a pound and a half — isn't much more than an average rutabaga, but she's beginning to exchange her long, lean look for some baby fat. As she does, her wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and she'll start to look more and more like a newborn. She's also growing more hair — and if you could see it, you'd now be able to discern its color and texture.

Penny - RIP 12/26/09

On Saturday 12/26 Tom and I laid down for a well deserved nap - the last few days were long. When Tom woke up and walked by Penny she gave out a very sorry meow. He checked on her and she was not doing well. He called me into the bedroom and after a brief examination I noticed she was having trouble breathing and couldn't stand. We immediately took her to the emergency vet. They took her to the back for the vet to look at while we filled out paperwork. They then took us into a different room to have us wait for the vet. When the vet came in he told us that Penny was in critical condition. They had her on full oxygen she was severely dehydrated, fluid in her lungs and very sick. He said that he would get an estimate on how much it would be to run tests to determine what was wrong with her and what care it was that she currently needed. I asked him if considering her age would it be best for her if she was put to sleep. He said that usually when a cat comes in that sick it is the best but that he would get us the estimate so we can make the best decision. He then left us to talk while he put together the treatment plan. They came back in with the plan but after discussing it with Tom I wanted to release Penny from her pain. In all honestly after watching mom and how sick she was for so long I just don't have the heart to try to keep Penny around because I want her here. So after our 13 years together (she was 15) we knew it was time to let her go and be with mom. We were there when it was done and spent our final moments thanking her for the life we shared and reminding her of all the good times.
Molly is having a difficult time with this and misses Penny so much. She has been clingy to me and although very skittish around others, even Tom but she is starting to accept him more since she wants to be with us. The dogs, well they don't notice anything as they cats and dogs don't spend time together.

We will miss Penny but she will forever remain in our hearts.
